Stories of Resilience Chapter 1: Voices from Jasper is a short film showcasing lived experiences in the aftermath of the 2024 Jasper wildfire.
Created by Carter Kirilenko and Mitch Bowmile, the film follows Paulette Dubé and Greg Deagle as they turn to writing, photography, and painting to reconnect with themselves, their community, and the landscapes they call home. Through creative expression and reflection, their stories illuminate both the challenges of living in an era of climate uncertainty and the qualities that help communities navigate change together.
“Our lives were overturned and then art comes along in the hope that it will strengthen us.”
Greg Deagle
Their narratives form part of the Stories of Resilience program at The Resilience Institute, a Canadian educational charity. Through this program, community voices are amplified as participants explore what it means to be resilient in a changing climate. This growing collection of stories is becoming a testament to our shared understanding of the climate crisis. Audiences see, hear, and feel reflections of themselves in these experiences, discovering echoes of their own lives and communities. Through dialogue, creativity, and storytelling, Voices from Jasper reminds us that while a single story can change hearts and minds, our collective stories have the power to shape more resilient futures.
