This initiative was inspired by Building Climate Resilience & Adaptation in the Kainai First Nation – Phase I Capacity Building

Phase II builds on the very successful pilot (link to Phase I) that shows how partners can work together in weaving traditional and scientific knowledges to develop long-term resilience.

The first-steps identified for Phase II are:

  • Create three best-practice reports on flood, fire, and drought adaptation.
  • Develop next-step adaptation strategies that weave knowledge from the best practices reports with Blackfoot knowledge.
  • Scale up the restoration of Prairie Grasslands.

These steps will provide the necessary information for implementing larger adaptation strategies and will link nature-based solutions and community initiatives to adaptation strategies such as bringing bison back to the land.
